Cognitive Behavioural Therapy informed practice helps clients to identify the interrelationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours that can interfere with daily activities. Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy informed practice allows clients to take control in interrupting negative patterns and applying new strategies to manage stress, anxieties and symptoms of depression.
Art Therapy informed practice allows clients to use various artistic techniques and media that will encourage development of insight into feelings, thoughts and behaviours, improving self-awareness. Art is an effective form of expression for people who do not prefer the traditional talk therapies and can help resolve emotional and interpersonal conflicts and encourage personal growth. I incorporate Art therapy informed practice in combination with other therapeutic techniques to encourage expression and to enhance communication.
Theraplay is a therapy that was developed for children and families to enhance communication, effective self-regulation and trust in others through attachment and joyful engagement. It is based on the natural patterns of playful, healthy interaction between parent and child and is personal, physical and fun. Theraplay activities focus on four essential qualities found in parent-child relationships: Nurture, Engagement, Structure and Challenge. Theraplay sessions create an emotional connection resulting in a changed view for both the parent and the child. In treatment, the therapist guides the parent and child through playful, fun activities based on the individual needs of the family. Because of the improved attunement between parents and children, the child feels connected, loved and worthy which promotes positive behavioural changes.
